Visit To Esxence, The Artistic Perfumery Showcase In Milan

The team of Xavier Blaizot (perfumer and business development) and project managers Amelia Garossi, Alexandre Zini and Gilda Gillet visited Milan for the niche fragrance tradeshow held from 15-18 June. The show had been rescheduled multiple times due to the pandemic, so it was great to finally make the trip to Italy.

Esxence is a showcase for niche perfumery and the exhibition now includes beauty products too. The show has expanded so much over the years that it is now held in the MICO (Milan Convention Centre) a much larger venue than the previous exhibition space. Approximately 280 exhibitors were present this year and a record number of over 9000 visitors attended the show, of which 70% were professionals from the industry.

This year, the theme was Through The Mirror” and Esxence elaborates on this idea :

“The mirror allows you to see multiple faces of reality and through it we can explore new worlds, such as that of art and artistic perfumery. Therefore, perfume is the mirror of our personality, capable of telling our deepest being and our essence. However, at the same time, it can also reflect a more hidden and mysterious part of our soul, a side not yet revealed: what we are and what we would like to be.”

Esxence provides the team with an opportunity to meet partners and colleagues, as well as to see any emerging trends in the niche fragrance industry. We couldn’t help but notice a strong movement to natural perfumes this year, with or without alcohol in the composition. Many of the discussions at Esxence with partners centred on the shortage of raw materials and current issues with the supply chain as was expected.

The team enjoyed the show very much and will take their learnings forward to all of the projects they have planned for the year. We’ll see you in Milan next year.
